Set in 1990s Spanish Harlem, the play follows a vibrant neighborhood where cultures, generations, and identities collide and connect. When a Midwestern grandmother and her mixed-race grandson arrive, they’re welcomed by three Nuyorican women over 50, a street-smart young girl, and a gay man whose love of drums sparks the discovery of joy, heritage, and belonging. Abuelita is a heartfelt celebration of connection, transformation, and the power of community to heal and inspire.
